WHO

Meet your NLC Deacons!

Deacons provide care ministries for the people of New Life Community. They are discerned by the Elders and affirmed by the church. As you'll see, each of the deacons has a unique calling and connection to people, serving through their gifts. In addition to the ministries listed below, they have made intentional visits to those who are hospitalized, in healthcare, or lonely, and they prepare and serve Communion on the first Sunday of each month.

Clockwise from top left: Don & Janet Warkentin have taken the lead on funeral meals and planning, serving many people through the church kitchen; Don has also provided leadership at the tech booth, organizing and training a team that supports worship ministries on ProPresenter. Stan & Ann Isaac lead the deacon team, organizing the work of the deacons and serving as a contact with Pastor Mark and the Elders for coordinating ministries to people in need, disbursements from the Benevolent Fund, and leading the Wednesday evening Prayer Gatherings; you'll see them both serving in the kitchen, as well. Ken & Martha Sawatzky lead Connecting Point coffee and snacks on Sunday mornings; Martha is invested in ministries to children and offering the Griefshare ministry to those who have suffered loss; Ken leads the Tuesday men's Bible study, and also serves as a Trustee. Mike & Nori Naylor are prayer warriors, interceding for people in many ways; Nori leads our Pray & Go Ministry, and directs a non-profit ministry called The Healing Rooms of Dinuba on our church campus; Mike leads our ministry to people in Dinuba who are homeless, taking meals monthly and responding to needs. We know Manuela as Nelly Lopez, who is likely the first person you meet on Sunday mornings at the door; not only does Nelly welcome people to church, she also leads people to Jesus. Nelly's fluency in Spanish also bridges a language gap for many people at NLC. You'll see her serving in the kitchen, at the door, up front in prayer, or supporting our Home Resource Center, among other places.

CONNECT TIP: Thank the Lord for our Deacons, and take time to personally thank them. Not only are these men and women of great godly character, they are fun to spend time with and are leading as examples of service in our church and into our community.

WHY - HOW

God loves a cheerful giver!

When Laurie and I were in Africa last year, visiting a church in Ruhatwe, Tanzania, we found the joy of the people who gave during the offering was infectious! People clapped and danced and sang as each one came forward to present their gift before the Lord. It wasn't bragging about how much each one put in, but simply celebrating the fact that God first gave to us.
It's a joy to give back to a generous God!

  • Vicky Barkman's graveside service will be at the Zion MB Cemetery on June 28, at 11 a.m., with lunch provided at the church afterward.
  • Ignacio "Nacho" Garcia lost his brother suddenly this week. Pray for him and Dalia, and their son Julian and family.
  • Josh "Chinoh" Aquino is stationed in Qatar and requests prayer for these things: (1) his witness and opportunities to worship since he works on Sundays, (2) large responsibility and a steep learning curve on his cyber job, (3) schooling to "rank up" while deployed, (4) studying for a test he needs to take when he returns, and (5) learning Spanish so he can more freely and fluently minister to others.
  • Jessica Aquino and their children as they miss Josh. Pray for Jessica as she leads a very busy summer of ministry to children and families. CONNECT TIP: Contact Laurie Isaac to find an open day to deliver a meal to the Aquinos.
  • Pray for our recent baptisms: Raquel Keo and her sons, Anthony and Joshua, and Megan Barnes.
  • John & Geri are returning from Global Disciples ministry in India and Nepal. Pray for safe and smooth travel.
  • There are still many people dealing with illnesses. Pray also for those with longterm health concerns: Mike, Glen, Eugene, Anatalia, Manuel, and JR.
  • Pastor Roland De La Cerda reports that a recent PET scan for his wife Bea shows the cancer mass is gone! She needs to heal from the radiation and strengthen her throat muscles so she can swallow. Still, she has begun to regain some needed weight.
  • Pray for expectant mothers at our church.
  • YFC is starting up their summer lake waterskiing trips. Pray for safety, but also that many will take the opportunity to consider their relationship with God and accept Jesus.
  • Pray for the children attending VBS in Traver this week, that they would put their trust in Jesus. Pray that volunteers will be able to teach and relate well with the children and families.

Mark Isaac
