PRAYER

The funeral for Joanna Espinoza Brooks' mother is Tuesday, January 31st, 10 a.m. at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Dinuba. Continue to pray for her and the family, as well as Chery Jackson, Anatalia Sandoval, Carl Wohlgemuth, and others who have lost loved ones.
Pray for those fighting illness and elevated levels of anxiety recently. Several in our church family continue to battle long-term illness and cancer treatments. Remember JR Southard, Glen Zimmerman, Mike Naylor, and others who may have shared with you personally.
Continue praying for Joshua "Chinoh" Aquino as we affirm his eldership this Sunday.
Pray for the right person to join the NLC staff as our Connections Specialist.
Praise God that he's given us the unity of the Spirit at NLC! Pray we will keep it healthy as a strong witness to our community.
Pray for the junior campers preparing to go to Hartland Winter Camp in February. Pray that the children--some of whom were recently baptized--will grow in their relationship with Jesus and each other (Cassandra, Clarissa, Hannah, Lydia, Serenity, Aubrey, Zoe, and Samuel). Pray also for their leaders, Natalie Zuniga and Chinoh Aquino.
Pray for the Church of the Nazarene, and pastor Corey Davis. The church is right across the street from Dinuba High School, and recently upgraded its gym to host students after school in partnership with Youth For Christ. Praise God!

Sunday Series
Continues in February

My sermon series from Ephesians is continuing into February with some fun Sunday morning plans. I hope you can come and get in on the learning and growing!

February 5 and 12 will be about living in the light and living by the Spirit, from Ephesians 5:3-21. Then, on February 19th, we'll have a couples' panel address the topic of marriage, sharing their own experiences of putting into practice the words of Ephesians 5:21-33. That's the Bible passage that encourages wives to submit to their husbands and husbands to love their wives as Christ loves the church. I'm sure we'll hear some fascinating and inspiring stories, tips, and encouragement from these couples!

On February 26th, Chinoh & Jessica Aquino will bring the message from Ephesians 6:1-4, about children obeying their parents, and fathers (and mothers) not exasperating their children. The Aquinos are raising 6 kids in their home, ranging in age from 5 to nearly 13, so they're in the thick of things. For lots of reasons, I'm very excited to have them bring the message as a couple. Chinoh is being discerned as an Elder at NLC, and Jessica is our Children's Ministry Leader. She is also a Preschool Teacher for Kings Canyon USD, has a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education from Fresno Pacific University, and is working to complete her Master's Degree in Social and Emotional Learning from National University.

There will be more to come in March from Ephesians chapter 6, including a message from Pastor Steve Sandoval, our Youth Ministry Leader. Then we'll celebrate Easter and start a new sermon series after that.

If the Bible is new to you, I encourage you to get in on the Bible Story Out Loud class on Sundays right after church in Room 111. If you've got children, there are activities for them in Room 101 during that time. Terry Chappell leads the class and has created a safe place where any and every question is fine to ask, where learning comes through stories, and parents can grow along with the things their children are learning at NLC Kids.

If you'd like more of an opportunity to go deep in Bible study, the 8:30 a.m. video class on Sundays is working its way through the letter of 1 Peter. Come join the conversation! And there are both a men's and women's Bible study on Tuesdays. The men meet every Tuesday at 6:00 a.m. in the Dining Room with donuts and coffee and use a video format to open discussion on books of the Bible or hot topics for our faith. The women meet every other Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. in Rooms 114/115 and use their own video format with workbooks to encounter God with each other through his Word. So lots of opportunities to study the Bible with others.
